Several Fed offices have conducted surveys of small businesses to learn more about the state of lending in the post-recession economy. Read "New York Fed Finds Growing Evidence of More Positive Small Business Lending Environment" for results of a survey released in 2014 of small businesses in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. See the results of another Reserve Bank's small business survey from 2014 focused on small businesses in the Southeast. Nontraditional capital sources for small businesses Historically, small businesses have had a more difficult time securing capital than larger, more-established companies. The Great Recession made credit even tougher to get. As a result, small businesses have turned to other sources of capital for help.
